Palm oil is used more often as a fuel and in food. The consumption of palm oil in Holland is increasing rapidly. That seems to have positive points but if we take a closer look also a lot of negative points. Palm oil is received out of oil palms. Those grow in countries around the equator such as: South East Asia, Latin America and Africa. Indonesia and Malaysia are the biggest producers of the palm oil.
The disadvantage of palm oil
The disadvantage of palm oil is that if the consumption of it continues on this level, a big part of the rainforests of the world are gone. That is, because those palms only grow around the equator so forests are cut down for the mooring of a plantation. That’s not what we want. Still in Holland there is a lot of palm oil stoked in energy centrals as biomass to produce green energy. Essent has stoked already 200 thousand tons of palm oil!
The advantages of palm oil
The advantage of palm oil is that the stoking of palm oil a great saving of CO2 produces, this is only what Essent is telling us. When a rainforest is transformed into a plantation a lot of CO2 is released so the ‘great saving’ isn’t a saving anymore.
Environment defence thinks that in the conditions of now palm oil can’t be used. If we want green energy to help the nature we shouldn’t cut the rainforest down to produce green energy. Think for yourself, that is ridiculous. So this is an alternative which can’t be used
» A great saving of CO2 says Essent, but it is not right.
» Rainforest is being cut down.
» Result of that is that flora and fauna is lost.
» Less trees to produce oxygen.
